Dear readers,
the beginning of this new academic year, 2016-2017, witnessed the installation of Father Abbot Gregory Polan, osb, as both Chancellor of the Athenaeum of Saint Anselm and tenth Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Confederation. We wish him every blessing. We cannot fail to recall his predecessor, Father Abbot Notker Wolf, osb, who completed 16 years at the service of the Benedictine world and of the Athenaeum of Saint Anselm. We are most grateful to him for his generous support and we wish him a well-deserved rest. In the same year, we rejoiced on the election and abbatial blessing of one of our professors and member of our editorial council, Father Jeremy Driscoll, osb, elected abbot of the monastery of Mount Angel (Oregon – USA). To him go our heartfelt good wishes for a fruitful mission at the service of his community.
Activites of the PIL and of the Editorial Board
The new series Ecclesia orans.Ricerche
As mentioned in the previous issue and in this year’s editorial, the review is opening a new path in its mission at the service of liturgical science with a new series entitled “Ecclesia orans.Ricerche”. We recall that the first volume will be dedicated to the Acts of the PIL’s 10th International Congress of Liturgy whose theme was “Carmina Laudis: reply in time to the eternal”. The volume will be called “Carmina laudis: Risposta nel tempo all’eterno. La Liturgia delle Ore tra storia, teologia e celebrazione” [“Carmina laudis: reply in time to the eternal. The Liturgy of the Hours in history, theology and celebration”] and it offers varied contributions of a high scientific standard and will be available in both printed and digital versions from specialised booksellers and on the website (www.aracneeditrice.it) of the publishers Aracne.
Study day for the 53rd anniversary of Sacrosanctum Concilium
Like every year, on the anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution on the Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium of Vatican II, the Pontifical Liturgical Institute, the Centre for Liturgical Action and the Association of Professors and Scholars of the Liturgy organised on 1st December 2016, a study day with the theme: The liturgical year. A style guide for the Athenaeum of Saint Anselm
Professors P.A. Muroni and O.-M. Sarr, osb, teachers of “scientific methodology”, have recently published a book entitled: “Metodologia per la redazione di elaborati, tesi di licenza e tesi di dottorato” [“Methodology for writing essays, licence dissertations and doctoral theses”]. Divided in two parts, a secton on “Tables” and another for “Appendices”, the style guide offers a simple presentation, which is easy to consult for answers to the peculiar editing requirements of a scientific text. Also available in electronic format on the website of the publishers Aracne (www.aracneeditrice.it), the book will be a great help also for authors and researchers who ask to publish in our review.
The book of licence and doctoral thesis titles
Another research tool has been prepared by Professor F. Bonomo. It contains an updated list of doctoral theses and licence theses, written and discussed in the PIL, since its foundation in 1961 until the academic year 2014-2015. It will be updated on the PIL website and periodically printed and published.
The website of the PIL
Apart from the website of the review (www.ecclesiaorans.com) which informs visitors about news, the contents of each year of publication and on the diverse activities of the editorial staff, the PIL has recently launched a new website (pil.anselmianum.com). This new platform, which is regularly updated, informs visitors of the various activities and events of our institute and of the Athenaeum. The same website offers carefully prepared content for former students of the PIL (http://pil.anselmianum.com/home/ex-studenti) in order to remain in contact and to establish collaborative relations..
