The editor

Markus Tymister is the editor of the journal Ecclesia orans and full professor of Liturgy (History and Liturgy of the Sacraments) at the Facultiy of Liturgy of the Pontifical Athenaeum S. Anselmo (Rome). He is president of the Liturgical Commission of the Archdiocese of Hamburg (Germany) and works in the area of liturgical history, the sacraments of reconciliation and anointing of the sick, and Eucharistic concelebration.

Il presente volume raccoglie gli Atti della seconda Giornata di studio organizzata dalla rivista Ecclesia orans insieme con il Pontificio Istituto Liturgico, Facoltà di liturgia del Pontificio Ateneo Sant’Anselmo, tenutasi a Roma il 4 dicembre 2024 sul tema “L’atto penitenziale”. Il libro si rivolge a studiosi, ricercatori e studenti di liturgia, teologia e storia della Chiesa, così come a operatori pastorali e laici desiderosi di approfondire in modo rigoroso e documentato questo aspetto della liturgia eucaristica. I singoli contributi, pur diversi per metodo e ambito, mostrano con chiarezza che l’atto penitenziale non è una semplice introduzione funzionale alla messa, ma un momento di alto spessore teologico e pastorale. Due contributi di Andrea Grillo e Stefano Parenti arricchiscono il volume, ampliando l’orizzonte con importanti prospettive.

This volume contains the proceedings of the second Study Day organized by the journal Ecclesia orans together with the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy, Faculty of Liturgy of the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant’Anselmo, held in Rome on December 4, 2024, on the theme “The Penitential Act.” The book is intended for scholars, researchers, and students of liturgy, theology, and Church history, as well as for pastoral workers and laypeople seeking a rigorous and well-documented understanding of this aspect of the Eucharistic liturgy. The individual contributions, though methodologically and thematically diverse, clearly demonstrate that the Penitential Act is not a mere functional introduction to the Mass, but a moment of high theological and pastoral significance. Two guest essays by Andrea Grillo and Stefano Parenti expand on the subject, adding significant dimensions.
